Hindi Ornament
While decorating my Christmas tree this year I thought of making
ornaments for my nieces ..When I sat down to think what can I make I had
lots of ideas ...however each idea ended with the same thought .. well
they can but that from Target,Pier1 etc .. so what can Aunt Meenakshi
make that is special ..So I had felt ribbon, embroidery thread ... my
niece Kate is a year old .. I made a felt onsie ..but how was that special
...?? common Aunt Meenakshi you can do better ...while sitting at the
dinning room table and talking to mom I said why don't I make the
initial of her first name "K" on onsie ...and then my hindi instinct
grew and I decided to make the same letter in hindi ...It started to
look cute so I added a hanger on the onsie made with floral wire ...look
for yourself and see what you think ? I will post template and instructions soon .. but all you creative folks out there you get an idea and I am sure if you like it you have already started making it :)

Cake Pop ..I said " That sounds good" ...with this easy recipe it was so quick to make .. My co workers were blown away and all 40 cake pops were gone in no minutes .. For Christmas it is going to be Red Velvet cake pops with sprinkles on top .. yeah I know I can't wait as well .. Thanks to Bakerella for the amazing video ...

Diwali for Kids
With all the preparation all around we get so busy that we tend to forget how special is Diwali for kids. Specially abroad kids are anyways not exposed to Indian culture that it becomes important to do something special so that they can learn and enjoy at the same time. Few things that I like my niece to do are:
1. Coloring Pages : There are a bunch of websites online that allow you to print the cards and coloring pages that kids can color One side that really like is :.http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/diwali_colouring.htm. They also include Bhaiya Dhooj printable which is so special.
2. You Tube: Watching Diwali videos online gives them the exposure of how to festival is celebrated in India and they ask questions coz they minds are inquisitive. Here is one links that I like:
3. Craft: Making craft things like Happy Diwali sign, decorating diyas and flower arrangement around the house. My sister in law lets her decorate the fruit basket with fruits and flower.
The idea is to keep kids involved and think about this festival and ask question ...when they grow up what you do now is what you will see them doing in their house on Happy Diwali

Diwali Sweets
Diwali sweets from my archive ..my mouth is watering already .. God bless the person who invented camera ...its because of them we can look back at pictures from last year ...I think this year plan is to make Ras Malai and Sandesh ... and Kalakand ..yum yum yummo ...I love to make home made sweets rather than buying the old stale one from Indian store ...this way I control the sugar goes in it and know that its made from right ingredients and no preservatives ...and I blush when my family compliments how good it is :) What are you making this Diwali ?
